Got my answer with a call to LNR, the stubs are attached at the right lengths. I just got back from a camping trip yesterday and only got 1 day to use my EF-Quad antenna due to the rain.

I got the antenna tuned to 1.2:1 on 40m, 1.2:1 on 20m, 1.3:1 on 15m and 1.6:1 on 10m. All within my allowed operating frequencies (General Class). Was already at 1:1 on 40, 20, 15 and 1.3 on 10m but not in my operating frequencies.

Used an arborist throw line to get the radiant end of the antenna into a pine tree about 40-50ft off the ground and got the matchbox about 1.5 ft off the ground. Running a Yaesu FT-857D on battery power and man did i make some contacts. It happened to be the weekend of Navy Ships (June 7th) on 20M and i got through the pile ups with no issues at all. I haven’t been able to do that with my base rig (Icom IC-7410) and this set up got through without a hitch.

I was at Woods Canyon Lake 30 miles due East of Payson Arizona and made contacts in Bend OR, St Paul MN, Lincoln Nebraska, Wisconsin, Louisiana, San Diego CA and the LA area and a few others. All were 58 reports or better and again, can’t say it enough, i got through some massive pile ups during this special event weekend with the Navy ships. This is a keeper in my back pack for anything on the go! If I could I would make that my home antenna but can’t due to CC&R’s…

IF you want any more details feel free to contact me.
