I have a MTR-5b that is showing abt 2 watts with 9 volts and 2.5 watts with 11 volts into a dummy load with little variation between bands. Using battery power, radio otherwise seems normal. is Somewhat less than I expected. Any experiences with what could be causing the low output?

I have to agree with you Lou… I’m seeing the same problem. I got concerned when I got no RBN report, or response from my CQ. So I measured input voltage and output power.

When I bring the supply voltage up to about 11.8 Vdc, I only see about 2.5 W out on 40m. I’m pretty sure I used to see closer to 4 W output with that same supply voltage.

I’ve accidentally transmitted for brief periods without all the band switches aligned, but if that’s all it takes to fry the radio, I need to find something else.

Discovered my problem. My MTR5B works fine using straight key, but when using paddles it is only transmitting a continuous tone, not morse code; though I do hear morse code in the headphones.

I discovered this by monitoring my transmitted signal on a separate receiver. Sending in for repair.
